Jet Fuel Gelato by GODDESS

With so many hybrid cultivars these days, it can often be difficult to gather any info about the strain from the name. Sometimes, the lineage is pretty obvious from the name (like Blueberry Jack, for example), but most of the time, a cultivar’s creator comes up with a new name that has nothing to do with the parent strains. This requires the consumer to do some homework regarding what to expect in terms of aroma, flavor and effect. One strain that fits into the former category would be Clone Goddess’ Jet Fuel Gelato. While not a cross between Jet Fuel and Gelato (it is actually a cross between Jet Fuel x High Octane), any consumers familiar with those two cultivars will definitely get a sense of what to expect from this offering.
Clone Goddess’ Jet Fuel Gelato comes in a domed jar inside a box. The box shares the cannabinoid content, while a trip to the website shows the consumer a brief description of the cultivar, along with tasting notes and expected effects. The jar contained three buds, all covered in crystals and bright orange hairs with shades of lime green and purple throughout. Looking at the flower under my microscope (see pics), I can see that the buds are covered in trichomes with the heads intact, showing me that the flower was well handled and cared for at harvest time, and that I should expect a potent and flavorful smoke.
Sticking my nose into the jar, I was met with the exact aroma I was expecting. Very fuel-forward with hints of creamy sweetness and a little woody pine, I could easily pick up the Jet Fuel as well as the Sunset Sherbet from the High Octane lineage. The buds were dense, like a Gelato, but a bit squishier, like a Diesel. Grinding one up to roll a joint provided the perfect texture and consistency. My sister once told me that the perfect textured cannabis “continues to move” after being dumped from the grinder, and I always look for that now. If it is too wet, it will just sit in a clump after grinding, while flower that is too dry will sit in a dusty pile after grinding. The ideal cannabis flower will continue to spread after being poured from the grinder (if you’re not sure what I’m talking about, watch your cannabis the next time you grind it), and that is precisely what the Jet Fuel Gelato did. Grinding released much more of that Jet Fuel smell, and at this point the aroma was overwhelmingly fuel-forward.
I rolled my joint and took the customary dry hit before lighting. The flavor was pretty much what I was expecting. It tasted like what I imagine putting your mouth over a gas can and breathing in tastes like, with a little bit of sweet and earthy undertones. Let’s be clear, though, the fuel is the star of this show. If you don’t like gassy strains (like my wife), then this one might not be for you. The joint lit and smoked smoothly and easily, and the ash burned a nice light gray, again indicating proper handling of the flower at harvest time. Before I was even halfway done with the joint, I started to detect the trademark “tightness behind the eyes” that I get from cerebral diesel strains. The effects slowly worked their way down my body, and by the time I was finished, I was experiencing a perfect balance of cerebral energy and body relaxation. I was definitely able to decipher the effects of both parents in this one, from the heady Jet Fuel to the relaxing Sunset Sherbet in the High Octane. As with the flavor, the effects were quite potent, a nice change from some of the more mild cannabis I’ve been sampling lately. The duration of effects was solid too, as I was still feeling this one a good 90 minutes after smoking.
If you’re a fan of gassy cultivars, and you’re looking for a balanced strain that will give you cerebral energy and full body relaxation, look no further than Clone Goddess’ Jet Fuel Gelato. A perfect use case for this cultivar is attending a live event with lots of sensory elements, or driving through neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights. Anything where your body doesn’t have to be too active but your mind can take in all of the sights and sounds around you. I usually prefer sungrown flower, but this strain makes me want to sample some of female-owned and operated Clone Goddess’ other offerings!
