Let’s start first with the packaging and hardware and we’ll step back a bit throughout to share more about Arcata, Ridgeline and the amazing oil that’s inside of this pen. 

This all-in-one pen is packaged under Arcata’s Rosin Syrup lineup, in a special black box that is used for high-end/limited releases. Opening the box reveals a sleek, black camo soft-touch all-in-one, with elegant gold stenciling. It’s just enough touch of design to give the pen a bit of class and style!

Included with the pen is a small sticky note that instructs you to “scan this all-in-one as soon as you open the package!” If you open the note, it has a visual instruction for Android and iPhone pointing you to scan your vape towards a specific part of the phone.  This communicates via NFC to your phone and loads a special webpage dedicated to the product at: https://www.alwaysthefire.com/arcata-fire-x-ridgeline-farms-collab. There is also some cultivation and product information on the webpage and the packaging that highlight the region of origin which is Garberville, Southern Humboldt County and that it was grown at an altitude of 2100 ft.  The inputs consist of AAA+ flower that was CryoFlash frozen during the 2023 harvest. The extract is from 100% clarified 73u-159u rosin. The hardware is noted to include custom voltage and lighting, it is USB-C rechargeable, includes NFC, and only 500 units were made!  My specific box, which is unit #356/500, noted that it was harvested September, 2023 and was packaged on 3/21/24. Also included in the box is a custom, numbered Lantz artwork insert from Sonny Wong @sonnytheflygod. Love it!

Now, let’s talk more about the amazing oil that is inside of the pen. With total terps of 5.09% and a healthy dose of Limonene and Linalool thrown in with the Beta Caryophyllene, I knew I was going to be in for a treat.  Lantz itself is the result of more than four years of breeding a cross of two Emerald Cup winning cultivars that are Ridgeline staples – Green Lantern x Ridgeline Runtz.

Picking up the pen and giving it a whiff, I get an earthy, woody and pungent aroma that primes my senses for the experience you are about to have - it’s as close to the smell of flower as picking up a piece of plastic and electronics with a little capsule of yellow-hued oil could ever be!

Inhaling on the pen is when things really start to come alive.  The hardware works best with lighter, even pulls and delivers really clean and smooth vapor that has outstanding flavor intensity and complexity. Especially for solventless vape-pens - which tend to be smoother, but lighter on flavor - this is one of the most flavorful I have found. The combination of this device and the oil are really a pleasure to experience.

The flavors are nuanced, with several different layers combining and no real dominant player to me. There is a fruity layer that is mostly citrus with a bit of peachy sweetness. And some savory flavors, sort of like a breakfast croissant with a bit of pine needles. And finally there is a herbal taste to it, like a mild chartreuse, that leaves a bit of a tangy aftertaste on the exhale. This oil tastes very “flower-like” and clearly I need to seek this cultivar out for a smoke! Even my cat, who typically makes a yucky face to any cannabis aromas, seemed to be interested in this one; coming over to check out the packaging during my photo shoot and while I gave the pen a puff. 

Effects for me are balanced-to-energized both in my head and body - tending towards the more creative, euphoric and awake side of things, with lots of smiles and good vibes!  This would be enjoyable for almost any type of activity, perhaps even  getting some creative writing done like a cannabis product review?!
